15-The Palace Garden

The architectural group in Chinese style is believed to be part of the grand palace garden of King Rama II. The garden was dismantled and numerous structures were given over to some temples during King Rama III reign. Some of the important structures were the houses in Chinese style, which were normally built by the King and the nobles; the stone slabs carved with figures of Chinese lions, mandarins, elaborately bedecked posts and scenes illustrating episodes from Chinese chronicles.

The Ancient City brought all of the original buildings from Wat Phai Ngoen in Bangkok, to show the considerable influence of Chinese art in the Thai court. As we can see, many monasteries and domestic quarters initiated by the King and the nobles during this time illustrated the obvious influence of Chinese architecture.
