Introduction to the Museum

Welcome to The Ancient City, the World's Largest Outdoor Museum.

The origin of The Ancient City can be traced in 1963. On February 11, 1972, The Ancient City was honoured to be grand opened by the Thai King Rama IX and the Queen Elizabeth II of England.

The Ancient City is the achievement of Mr. Lek Viriyahphant. For more than 50 years since the construction of the ancient city in 1963, Mr. Lek’s family, especially his wife, Mrs. Praphai Viriyahphant and her descendants have supported and encouraged his career. What deserves our respect is this spirit has been passed down for generations. Not only has it not fallen, but it has also been revitalized and carried forward in the process of continuous research, collection and dedication, so that people can learn about Thai cultures from the process of excursions.

The concept of “protecting, carrying forward and inheriting the Siamese civilization” is fully reflected here. It’s a place where the world learn and understand the history of Siam. It also collects oriental art and civilization from ancient times to the present, so that they will not disappear in the wave of Western civilization under the trend of globalization.

Just a visit to the Ancient City is comparable to a Thailand-round journey within a day.
